The Colors I Have Lived In

Please ignore the grammatical travesty that is this post's title and instead focus your attention on this interesting graph from Jim Burroway:

• I was born and lived 21 years in the red region.
• I moved into the white region just before the red region vanished entirely.
• In 2008, C and I made our vows before God in a religious marriage held in the white region.
  
• In 2009, C and I made a trip into the green region to get legally married, but returned to live and work in the white region.
• Just this month, our portion of the white region turned blue :-)
  
• By the end of the year, we hope to both be living in the green region.

Congratulations, New York!

C and I stayed up last night watching the live stream from the state senate in Albany. We caught the stream in time to see two of the Republicans who voted in favor of marriage equality speak to the chamber. And then the historic vote.

What a momentous victory for the people of New York! Last night crowds gathered outside the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village to celebrate the passage of marriage equality on the site where, 42 years earlier, the gay rights movement began. Each year New York City celebrates the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, and it just so happens that this is the anniversary weekend. I'll bet it will be the biggest celebration yet.

Last night the capital of the empire state building was illuminated in the colors of the rainbow to mark the vote in Albany.

The old couple who operated the booth seemed completely oblivious to the double entendre :-)

June 14 2008: religious wedding
July 5 2009: legal Iowa wedding
June 1 2011: legal Illinois civil union

It's complicated being a gay couple, but kinda fun to have so many anniversaries to celebrate. I guess heterosexual couples only get one anniversary to celebrate :-)

Hmm. All our anniversaries seem to be clustering within about a month of each other. Now I think we need Federal recognition to occur in the winter in order to space out the next anniversary...
